Frequently Asked Questions

I want to book at Appt - what is the process?

Click on book now and you will be taken to Vagaro - our online platform for billing and scheduling.

You can choose a specific focus for your appointment or choose General Intake.

If you are already an established patient - choose Follow Up.

If you are having problems getting scheduled or don’t see an appointment time that works for you - please email hello@elizabeth-hanna.com and someone will get back to you within 24-48 hours.

I want to get a Medical Marijuana Card - what is the Process?

You don’t have to be an established patient to book an appointment for a card (they are not guaranteed - please look at the description in services to ensure you have a qualifying condition).

If you are an established patient - the cost is significantly less. You can also add this service onto a visit.

If you have medical records that help establish your qualifying condition - please bring them with you.

It is also important that you go to the EVS website and create an account (they also charge an $8 fee).

Do you offer Aesthetic Injections?

We are going to be adding aesthetic injections - starting with Neurotoxins, in the fall!

If you are interested in using neurotoxins to help slow aging or address concerns (crows’ feet, frown lines, lifting the jaw etc.) please let us know and you will be the first on the list (and our first customers will lock in lower rates for the year!).

We believe in enhancing your natural beauty, prevention, and affirming your ability to match on the outside how you feel on the inside.

Do you offer IV Therapy?

We do offer IV therapy to existing clients. IV therapy is useful for:

Dehydration, administration of certain micronutrients and peptides, therapy for migraine patients (anti-nausea and pain medications).

Ask your provider if you should consider IV therapy. We are very conservative in this offering and do not see the benefit in loading people up with fluids needlessly (not only is it not as effective as drinking water, it can be dangerous).

Why don't you accept Insurance?

Having worked in healthcare in the US (and UK) for several decades, it has become painfully clear that our current system (work-based insurance model and a patchwork of insurance like entities to catch anyone who doesn’t get insurance through their job or their partner’s) is not working… it is actively failing.

The pandemic and the FDA approval of GLPs for obesity have laid bare fissures (canyons) in the system through which, most of us are falling - either a little or completely.

It has become increasingly difficult to get GLPs paid for and insurance companies continue to creep into the decision making of clinicians. Most of my insured patients, when I worked in bariatrics, had to pay cash for their medications and several of them had co-pays higher than what I charge. This was also the case in mental health, where ketamine is rarely approved and paid for, in spite of the truly transformative impact it has had on depression and related issues.

I do accept FSA/HSA and I am happy to create an itemized bill that you can submit to your insurance - and I suggest you try! However, the burden of getting and staying credentialed (the insurance agencies charge providers to have the privilege of them denying all of our decisions!) takes away from the time and effort I can spend with patients. Surprisingly, not having to pay someone to do prior auths saves me money that allows me to keep my prices lower.

I hope someday we have universal healthcare and when that day comes, I will happily close my doors and work for a system that serves people. However, in the UK (where I had both my children) they too struggle with the idea of preventative medicine, so there will probably still be a need for clinics like mine.

That’s my policy rant!

What are "Peptides"?

Peptides is a catch all for compounds (some that occur naturally in the body) that fight inflammation, oxidation, improve cellular turnover, and generally help slow the effects of aging.

The peptides we offer include: GLPs (tirzepatide and semaglutide), BP-157 (useful for recovery and inflammation), TD500 (useful in wound healing and tissue repair), NAD+ (fatigue), Sermorelin (belly fat and muscle preservation).

We are waiting for the FDA to approve Epitalon (for insomnia), Semax (increases BDNF, useful for migraines), and MOTs-c (obesity and aging).

Ask your provider if these would be appropriate to incorporate into your treatment plan.

Can you treat someone who is actively sick?

We are a wellness clinic - not an urgent care. If you are ill please don’t come. If you think you are getting something (or are having an is it allergies or am I sick moment) we ask that you wash your hands and wear a mask.

If you have an active migraine and are coming in for IV fluids and medication - that is fine!

If you have a non-contagious issue (UTI, yeast infection, etc.) and have an appointment, please let me know. Often I can help you and if I can’t I will refer you to urgent or primary care.

If you ever have a question about your health (including acute issues) and are not sure what is the appropriate course of action - please ask! I didn’t go into medicine to not help my patients.

What about labs and medications?

If you need labs drawn, I will print out an order (or email it to you). You can go to any LabCorp and have them drawn. I have an agreement with them to try and ensure reasonable cash pay prices.

If you would like to see if your Primary Care Provider will order them, you can also take the labs to them - I include ICD (diagnosis) codes and CPT (billing) codes so they can order them and will know why they are being ordered. They might be able to get your insurance to cover them this way - worth asking.

As for medications, I work with certain pharmacies, whenever possible locally. I have been to their facilities and been able to ask the pharmacists the questions that make me feel comfortable working with them.

I am price aware but also dedicated to your safety.

For non-compounded medications, we can use whatever pharmacy you normally use or we can look on GoodRx and find the cheapest option. Because this is a cash-pay clinic, the medications may or may not be covered by your insurance.

You might also be surprised to find that cash pay for some drugs is cheaper than your normal co-pay.

What makes you different?

We have a multidisciplinary team of psychiatric and acute care trained NPs.

We are passionate about helping people thrive not just survive and are strong believers in truly “preventative” medicine.

People are living longer than ever and we want to help you achieve the most enjoyment out of life (and look good doing it!).

We offer holistic services - treating all of you - including; wellness, metabolism, mental health, and chronic conditions.

Is HRT Safe?

HRT can be safe. It can also be dangerous. It really depends on what therapies are being done, why, and by what method.

I once had a patient who got pellets and her Testosterone was so high, her hair fell out in clumps. Pellets can’t be taken out - so she had to ride it out!

In Utah, many providers are attributing a myriad of symptoms (fatigue, brain fog, low sex drive) to perimenopause, and not digging deeper. As a result a lot of women in their 30s are on HRT and they should not be. This will cause downregulation of hormone receptors in the face of unnecessary, exogenous (external) hormones flooding their system. Downregulation is a way to preserve homeostasis and when these women do reach menopause - treating their symptoms will be very hard to impossible.

This downregulation also - ironically worsens all the symptoms that person was hoping to address as the body doesn’t respond to endogenous (internal) hormones either).

I am conservative in my treatments (no pellets!) and consider symptoms, lab values if appropriate, medical and surgical history, as well as your lifestyle.

Sometimes fatigue and brain fog is the result of our go-go-go lifestyles and HRT won’t fix that!

I will never recommend a therapy unless it is appropriate and evidence based.
